Me, My Art and Why

My entire life, I have always been interested in art, I love making things. I did not always paint, I actually have a degree in Baking and Pastry from Johnson and Wales University, I have owned two bakeries in upstate New York. I have also owned two construction companies. I know you are probably wondering how you go from baking to construction?

My father was always building things, and I learned how to build from him. When I decided to make a career change it was a simple transition. What I know and believe now is that all of the things I have done have had to do with creating things, Baking is an Art, especially if you do it at the executive level. Construction is an art on so many levels, it is all about art and design.

I started painting about fifteen years ago, and have gotten serious about it for the past three, when I say serious I mean that it is an obsession, it is something that I must do. If I do not paint for a day or two I can feel my self getting edgy and the painting is what calms me down. When I am painting, twelve hours could go by and I do not even realize it.

I paint because I love to do it, I never considered selling my art until 2009, I decided to try for two reasons. The first being that, when you paint continuously you end up with a lot of paintings, and do not know what to do with them, Second is that my Wife had suffered the loss of her right leg due to Lupus, and we decided that maybe we could make a little extra money with my art. We hope at some point in the future that through the success of my art we could start a foundation to help people that suffer a similar loss, but that is another story for another time.

I think that my art is all about searching for me, I feel as though I am searching for something in every piece. I know the painting is done when I have found it, and when I say it, I really do not know what it is, I just know. Maybe it is an image stuck in my mind from a dream, or car ride or television, who knows. Sometimes I think it has to do with the colors themselves and the way they intermingle, just as I say in my artist statement the allure of the piece, I think most important is if the piece makes you think or remember something, and then in turn brings about thoughts and emotions. That to me is everything in art.
